Steel Raised Garden Bed in Austin Texas

A Charming Place to Spend with Family

Have you ever stared at a blank space in your yard and wondered what could go there? Have you wanted to grow food but were concerned about whether it would look nice and be kept up? Our homes are so important and our time is so important. How you invest in your outdoor space can be enriching. This is exactly what Prairie wanted when she hired us to design and build her home kitchen garden. She wanted a garden to enjoy with her young children and something that was also beautiful.

My favorite part about working with Texas Raised Gardens is that they did all the hard work of setting up my garden so our family can just enjoy it
— Prairie

Prairie had a bit of a natural knack for growing food, but had mixed success in the past. We took her blank backyard corner and gave it a total transformation. We built the garden last January and planted it with cold-tolerant plants such as onions, lettuce, chives, cilantro, carrots and more, (yes, you can install and plant a raised bed kitchen garden in January in Texas!). We then returned at the end of March for a second planting of warm-season crops such as okra, peppers, tomatoes and gave her garden a fertilization with organic products and she got tips on how to care for her new space. With this support, Prairie now feels set for success in growing her own crops with her children.

Children gardening in Austin Texas

"The garden Texas Raised Gardens built makes me feel happy, grounded, content and connected. When I spend time in my garden seeing what harvests are hiding and growing I feel like a fairy princess!”

We really appreciated Prairie’s vision for her garden and found it inspiring how she got her children involved in the process of growing food for their kitchen. If you are looking to create a similar vision for your family, a place to spend time outside, to grow food and enjoy one another’s company, reach out to book a consultation with us! We would be thrilled to help you build your dream garden.
